Dear Uncle,
I write these few lines to you in hopes to find you enjoying
the best of health as it leaves me very well at present.
We received your letter last week and uncles has gone down
south four weeks ago and we received a letter from him last Monday, but he was
in Memphis, but he did not tell us where to direct the letter to, but we sent a
letter and put yours in it directed to E. Benjamin, Memphis .
I have not received a letter from home for a good while but
am expecting one this week. I have wrote
one to them and have not received an answer. I am hopes to receive some news in their next
letter. They do not say anything about Uncle
James. I have not heard anything about
him since he came to New York but am in hopes that he helps them in their old age
as he gets such big wages.
I have no news to tell you this time, only that have had a
great many fires here lately, from four to five every week. I am in hopes that I shall see you and family
soon. Hoping that you shall prosper in
all that you undertake to do.
I must conclude for the present with best respects to you all,
and this from your affectionate nephew,
Richard
